Forester – City of Austin
This position will be focused on community engagement through outreach and education related to Austin’s urban forest. The Forester will work with a small team to develop an outreach and education program that implements the Outreach and Education policy element category of the Austin Urban Forest Plan, and supports the Urban Forest Protection Division goals.
Duties will primarily include coordination with related City programs, program development, implementation, and tracking of outreach and education initiatives. Tree care, protection, and promotion of the Urban Forest Grant are initial areas of focus for this position.
This position will be a part of the Planning and Community Engagement Team in the Urban Forest Protection Division which is housed within the Development Services Department. This division is responsible for citywide tree regulation (City Arborist Program), and implementation of the Austin Urban Forest Plan. The Planning and Community Engagement Team works closely with other City programs and planning initiatives such as Imagine Austin’s Green Infrastructure Priority Program #4, and other urban forest operation and nature based programs.
New and creative techniques and technologies for engagement and education are encouraged, as is the ability for this position to leverage resources outside of the Division through partnerships.
