Webinar Agenda

1:00 PM Opening Remarks
1:15 Vegetative Debris Management Planning

Presented by Darren Green, Landscape Architect, Alexandria, LA

Managing vegetative debris generated by a disaster event is a complex and monumental task. The effectiveness of the response and recovery process is primarily determined by the amount of time and effort you invest in planning for the event before it happens. Participants will be given an introduction to Vegetative Debris Management Planning. This Pre-Disaster approach will help you assess your current level of preparedness and develop strategies to improve your ability to respond. Broad topics such as debris management staff; debris clearance, removal, and disposal; and contracting procedures will be discussed.

At the end of this session participants should have a better understanding of how to prepare for storm events by preparing in advance and arranging for the proper resources to be on hand during major storm events.

2:15 Hartford, CT’s Teamwork Approach to Storm Events

Presented by Heather Dionne, City Forester, Hartford, CT

Hartford, Connecticut’s City Forester gives a rundown of what her encounters with mother nature entail. Tropical storms, nor’ easters, and intense storms due to ongoing climate change have increased the amount of emergency response that the City of Harford has had to endure.

Having a plan with the right resources in place to respond is a critical first step. This presentation will discuss the responsibilities of Hartford’s Forestry Division and how the staff manages over 2,500 acres of greenspace and 434 miles of roadway with limited staff and resources. This presentation will highlight the Forestry Division’s ability to function in a safe manner through teamwork after storm events that ends up with grateful constituents, which is what urban foresters want at the end of the day.
