Growing Texas- EAB & Biodiversity Workshop, San Marcos

April 24, 2019 @ 9:30 am - 3:30 pm

When: 24 Apr 2019 9:30 AM, CDT
Where: San Marcos Activity Center, 501 E. Hopkins, San Marcos, TX 78666

Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is an exotic invasive insect first discovered in Michigan in 2002. It has spread to 38 states and killed hundreds of millions of ash trees. In Texas, EAB landed in east Texas in 2016 and in Fort Worth in 2018. This insect is an issue that communities will be forced to deal with. Our EAB speaker worked for a city in Michigan and he will provide practical advice for Texas.

The good news is that biodiversity is a great antidote to the alarming spread of exotic forest diseases and insects. Similar exotic pests are Oak Wilt, Dutch Elm Disease and Chestnut Blight.  Our expert speakers on this topic include a plant nursery grower and arboriculture professionals that work for local communities.
