Applications are now being accepted for SMA’s Municipal Forestry Institute (MFI)! After our 2023 Focus Year, we’re excited to be back and better than ever in 2024.

MFI is the premier leadership training for people in the urban forestry profession. Urban foresters and municipal arborists like you are providing needed and impactful work every day. More people are realizing what we have always known – urban tree planting and care is essential for creating healthy, safe, and resilient communities. SMA and its Municipal Forestry Institute stand ready to support you through leadership development that will ensure you’re able to take your forestry program to the next level.

MFI will be held February 25 through March 1, 2024 on Jekyll Island in Georgia. This state park on the Atlantic Ocean will offer you the perfect setting to step away and focus on your professional growth. At MFI, you’ll learn from experts in the field of urban forestry on what it takes to lead all while forming deep connections with your peers.
