Do you take pride in caring for trees and protecting the urban forest? The City of Plano is seeking a skilled and motivated Arborist to join our Parks and Recreation team. This role offers the opportunity to work outdoors, operate specialized forestry equipment, and play a key role in maintaining the health, safety, and beauty of Plano’s parks, trails, and public spaces.

As an Arborist, you will help manage and protect one of the city’s most valuable natural assets—its tree canopy—while working alongside a dedicated team committed to public service and environmental stewardship.

What You’ll Do

Supervise, lead, train, mentor, and direct a forestry team in the removal and/or trimming of very large and hazardous trees in parks, public buildings, trails, medians and rights-of-way citywide
Perform professional tree pruning, removals, and hazard mitigation using industry best practices
Operate forestry equipment including chainsaws, wood chippers, aerial lifts, and stump grinders
Train young trees to promote long-term canopy health
Inspect trees for disease, structural defects, and safety hazards
Respond to storm damage and emergency tree situations
Support citywide forestry initiatives and tree preservation efforts
Interact with residents and park visitors in a professional and helpful manner

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who takes pride in their craft and values teamwork, safety, and stewardship.

Qualified candidates typically have:

Experience in arboriculture, forestry, or professional tree care
Strong knowledge of tree pruning and removal techniques
Experience operating forestry equipment
The ability to work safely in outdoor environments and perform physically demanding tasks
A valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications

International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist
Tree Risk Assessment Qualification
Tree climbing and rigging experience
Experience operating aerial lift equipment
Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)

Standand hours are Monday-Friday 6:30am to 3:00pm.  This is an important supervisory position for the forestry team and may require overtime on weekdays and weekends.
