Urban Forester, City of Pflugerville
As an Urban Forester for the City, you will be planning, developing, and directing the implementation of an urban forest management program.
Essential duties and responsibilities include:
Consult on matters regarding City tree ordinance; Interpret tree surveys, site, landscape, irrigation, and grading plans; Respond to requests for information from the public Properly interpret and make decisions in accordance with laws, regulations, ordinances, policies, and procedures; Provide scientific and technical advice on urban forestry issues Develop and maintain tree inventory data through GIS systems and prepare work programs and planting specifications provide oversight of contract management for arboricultural work; Conduct inspections and monitor work before, during, and after construction Develop and maintain standard procedures for tree maintenance; Train personnel in tree management; Coordinate and document the removal of hazardous trees and branches Deliver education, outreach, and technical assistance to stakeholders including various boards and commissions, civic groups, and school-aged groups on various topics, including but not limited to tree planting and maintenance, urban storm-water management/green infrastructure, etc.
Coordinate annual Community Arbor Day celebration; Maintain City’s eligibility for Tree City USA status; Applies for and manages grants and ensures budgets are accurate and deadlines are met Coordinate volunteer work projects; Supervising volunteers and/or contractors, and delegate tasks and authority Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skill Requirements:
Formal Education: Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation, Urban Forestry, Forestry, Arboriculture, Environmental Services, or related field.
Relatable Work Experience: Two (2) years of experience in managing urban forestry or arboriculture programs or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certification Qualifications: Certified Arborist; International Society of Arboriculture Certification or the ability to attain within one (1) year of employment.
