Description
Under general supervision, reviews and analyzes development plans and specifications to ensure compliance with environmental ordinances and regulations, coordinates the Town’s urban forestry program and environmental education initiatives.
Examples of Duties
• Coordinates the Town’s Urban Forestry Program, including enforcing, monitoring, and updating the Town’s tree preservation ordinance and other environmentally related Land Development Code issues.
• Inventories and monitors the Town’s urban forest canopy. • Conducts forestry and open space analysis. • Performs Environmentally Sensitive Area (ESA) surveys per the Town’s SMARTGrowth Program. • Develops the Urban Forestry Program budget. • Coordinates and assists with outreach programs, events/activities, and seminars, including scheduling tree digs, Arbor Day celebrations, and creating educational materials such as pamphlets and calendars. • Serves as liaison to the Town’s Environmental Conservation Commission. • Adheres to personnel, safety, and department policies and procedures. • Performs other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Environmental Policy, Science or a related field is required. • Must be an ISA Certified Arborist through the International Society of Arboriculture within three years of employment with the Town. • Must have a valid driver’s license and driving record must be incompliance with Town policy. WORK EXPERIENCE: • Over two years of experience in Environmental policy or compliance or related field, or two years of graduate level environmental study is required. Must submit to and pass a post-offer, non-regulated drug test and thorough background checks (including criminal history).Desired Qualifications:
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES: • Must have excellent English communicative skills, both oral and written, to include spelling, grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure. • Must have basic skills in personal computer operations to include Microsoft Word. • Must be able to understand and carry out oral and written directives; work well under pressure and stress; handle multiple tasks; prioritize and organize work assignments; and always maintain a pleasant and friendly demeanor. PHYSICAL ABILITIES: • Must be able to see, talk, hear, and write. • Must be able to push, pull, and lift up to 25 lbs. of equipment, etc. • Must be able to work indoors, underground, outdoors, in confined spaces, in trenches, on level, slippery, sloping, unstable, and muddy terrain; work in adverse environmental conditions and exposure to insects, noxious plants, snakes, etc.; and walk, reach, kneel, stoop, bend, twist, and climb. • Must be able to learn and interpret related ordinances, codes, and procedures for handling code and ordinance violations.
