City of University Parks – Forestry Technician

Forestry Technician Summary:
- Maintains public trees in City parks and easements. Responds to emergency situations caused by tree failure that impact City access and infrastructure.

Qualifications
-
Minimum
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Valid CDL Class B Driver’s License required
- 5 years of experience maintaining plant materials and working in parks maintenance
- Able to operate various types of tree operations equipment (Bucket Truck, Chipper Truck, Dump Truck and Chain Saws, tractor)
- Must have at least 3 years of experience in removing trees, planting trees, pruning trees, and general tree care and response to tree failures of all types
- Experience with tree work in residential areas, dealing with traffic and pedestrians
- Ability to read and understand work orders, pesticide instructions and equipment manuals and maintain records and prepare written reports.
- Demonstrated ability to follow instructions and complete tasks according to safety guidelines
Preferred
- Licensed by the Texas Department of Agriculture in pesticide operations preferred.
- Extensive background in Forestry, Urban Forestry, Landscape Maintenance, and/or Horticulture
