The 4th Annual Growing Texas Workshop: Stormwater Sustainability & Riparian Restoration

May 10, 2018 @ 9:30 am - 3:30 pm

It’s Back!!  The 4th Annual Growing Texas Workshop: Stormwater Sustainability & Riparian Restoration is coming up on May 10th at Confluence Park in San Antonio.

This year, our focus is on Stormwater Sustainability & Riparian Restoration so we found an amazing location in San Antonio.  Confluence Park has a geometric design to collect rainwater and feed it into an underground storage system which is the sole source of water used for plants in the park.  Equipped with a green roof, the Estala Avery Education Center is designed for passive heating and cooling.  Solar panels also supply with power creating an energy neutral space.  Confluence Park’s native plants represent five ecotypes found regionally which require less water and attracts important wildlife such as pollinators. This stretch of the San Antonio River in the photo was straightened and channelized in 1954. The concrete drainage channelization had damaged the riparian ecosystem and its recreational use. In the last ten years, an effort by the San Antonio River Authority led to over 20,000 trees and shrubs and 60 different native grass planted along this section of river- the river ecosystem is healing, and its function as a stormwater system is intact.

Please Save the Date!!  Registration and CEUs information coming soon.
