Austin Certified Arborist Prep Course

At the Austin Certified Arborist Prep Course, gain the knowledge & tools you need to pass the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist exam.

This course helps attendees gain an increased knowledge of practices pertaining to the care of trees as they prepare to take the ISA Certified Arborist Exam. Over the course of 4 days, this class offers instruction from local Certified Arborists on the 16 topics covered in the ISA Certification Study Guide (included). Participants are strongly advised to read the Study Guide, attend the Friday Q&A session, and reach out to the teaching cadre with questions between sessions.

This course is beneficial to the following people:

  • Experienced tree care professionals taking the exam for the first time.

  • Other professionals wishing to become a Certified Arborist.

  • Anyone re-taking the certified arborist exam.

  • Anyone interested in learning more about tree care.

Classes are offered twice each year.  Registration for Winter 2021 virtual class is now open.

Scholarships sponsored by the City of Austin are available to qualified candidates.

Recognizing the importance of good tree care for our urban forest, the City of Austin has partnered with Arborholic, LLC, and the Texas A&M Forest Service to provide training to help green industry workers prepare to take the ISA Certified Arborist exam.  The course is available to anyone who is interested in learning more about proper tree care.  Thanks to funding from the Development Services Department a discount and scholarships are available for individuals who live or work within the Austin MSA.  Email Rebecca at rebecca@arborholic.com with any questions.  With this discount, the price of the class is $100, which includes the study guide and supplemental materials.

Note: Exam eligibility requirements: 3 yrs experience in arboriculture, or a 2 yr degree in arboriculture and 2 yrs of experience, or a 4 yr degree in a related field and 1 year practical experience. Learn more on the ISA website.
