James Campos is a Program Specialist with the Texas A&M Forest Service, where he leads efforts in urban tree improvement, native species propagation, and applied forestry research. He serves as the Urban Community Forester for the Brazos Valley region and is an ISA Certified Arborist. His work focuses on developing high-quality planting stock for Texas communities, with current projects including containerized Post Oak production and restoration-focused propagation trials. James is based at the Forest Science Laboratory in College Station and collaborates with researchers, municipalities, and landowners to support resilient urban and native forest ecosystems. Biographical Introduction – George McAfee (Reviving the Post Oak -only-) George McAfee is a renowned horticulturist and celebrated “master grafter” based in Houston, TX. With extensive experience teaching grafting workshops—particularly on fruit trees like citrus, pear, and fig—he is frequently recognized for his propagation skills. George has led numerous hands-on demonstrations, showcasing cleft grafting techniques and creative tool use with razor blades and electrical tape, and has been a fixture at Gulf Coast Fruit Study Group events. His ability to train workshops—as a knowledgeable instructor who clearly explains selecting budwood, using proper tape, and managing post-graft care—makes him a go-to expert in the field.
