    Davey Tree is seeking a Climbing Arborist -Trainee to join our Residential/Commercial Tree Care team in Texas’ South Austin Metro area. Those with prior experience in Forestry, Landscape or working at height are encouraged to apply. Trainees will work directly with the territory’s crew leaders & foremen to learn all aspects of Arboricultural operations. After familiarization with ground duties such as job-site setup, chipping, and chainsaw operation, Trainees will learn skills necessary for pruning trees to ANSI A300 guidelines. Trainees will progress through Davey’s Career Development Program as they learn to utilize ropes for ascending and working in trees.

    Duties:

    -Function as a member of a tree crew while progressively learning new skills

    -Make satisfactory progress in Davey’s Career Development Program -Operate chainsaws, chippers, stump grinders, and other equipment as needed on job-sites

    -Utilize ropes for work positioning at heights up to 60 feet, while pruning or removing trees

    – Maintain issued personal gear, crew gear, and equipment -Learn tree Identification and ANSI A300 Pruning guidelines

    Qualifications:
    -Background in Forestry, Urban Forestry, Landscaping, or working at heights

    -Demonstrated ability to report for work regularly and punctually

    -Valid Driver’s License, Commercial Driver’s License highly valuable

    -Willingness to work outdoors in Austin area during a variety of weather conditions -Knowledge of common tree species in Austin area is helpful

    This is a full-time, hourly position with opportunity for overtime. Compensation is based on experience, with incentives for completing training and certifications.     Responsibilities

    Develop a year-round volunteer program integrating and recruiting volunteers into our existing CityShade, Neighborwoods, and Reforestation programs, as well as specialized volunteer opportunities.

    Coordinate all aspects of TreeFolks’ CityShade program including implementation of 15-25 volunteer events primarily on Saturdays between Oct-March each year Develop a community engagement strategy to diversify existing volunteer base Create and manage all volunteer appreciation program including events Supervise seasonal program staff or interns Manage and facilitate all volunteer trainings Promote TreeFolks’ programs through various outlets including but not limited to news media, neighborhood groups, email and at community events Creatively promote volunteer opportunities to neighborhood and corporate groups, on local event calendars, TreeFolks volunteer webpage and through social media outlets Support business development and coordinate corporate sponsorship volunteer opportunities Serve as the staff liaison to TreeFolks’ Planting Committee Provide regular program updates for use in outreach materials Maintain records to track volunteer hours, donated materials or services and overall impact Assist Executive staff with events for volunteers, donors or partners Maintain and update Salesforce CRM databases Assure TreeFolks and its mission, programs, products, and services are consistently presented in a strong, positive manner

    Qualifications

    4-year Bachelor’s Degree

    2 years of full time experience in volunteer management

    1 year of experience supervising paid staff Arborist certification or the ability to acquire certification within 1 year Thorough understanding of tree biology Familiarity with Salesforce or similar CRM software preferred Strong confidence in public speaking, especially to large groups Ability to communicate clearly through written correspondence Ability to work independently with limited supervision Ability to work with a wide array of personality types and community partners Proficient with Microsoft Office Ability to work Saturdays, particularly during the winter planting season, and occasional evenings Maintain a Texas driver’s license in good standing.

    Ability to contribute and work as a team member within the organization.

    Ability to take direction

    Job Announcement – Staff Forester I Texas Forest Service

    Lufkin, Texas

    Locations: One open position – Lufkin, Texas

    Salary: $36,000 per year plus benefits with $2,000 increase after completion of training criteria.

    Major duties include: Forester will serve as forest survey crew leader and be responsible for the survey program in the assigned region. The forester will investigate land ownership in the tax office, contact landowners, locate field plots, collect and transmit forest survey data and meet production goals.

    Occasional duties: The forester must perform related duties when required. Forester is encouraged to be involved with local community and professional activities not specifically related to the Texas A&M Forest Service.

    Education: Applicant must be a forestry graduate (minimum B.S. Forestry) with a major in forest management or a closely related course of study from an SAF Accredited Forestry Degree Program.

    Work Experience and Required Skills: GPS training, dendrology expertise preferred. Must be able to communicate clearly. Applicant must have valid Texas driver’s license or be able to obtain one within 30 days of employment.

    Working Conditions: Requires outdoor field work. Must be able to work overtime, with some overnight travel. Will be in the field for extended periods of time.
