    Under general supervision, reviews and analyzes development plans and specifications to ensure compliance with environmental ordinances and regulations, coordinates the Town’s urban forestry program and environmental education initiatives.

    Examples of Duties

    Job Description
    The Habitat Conservation Technician assists with maintaining Texas State University’s tree canopy. This position is responsible for performing the arboriculture maintenance of the University’s tree canopy by assisting with health and risk assessment, installation of new trees, inventory of trees, and best management practices associated with tree care. The position also monitors invasive species on campus and performs habitat restoration and maintenance of the prairie and riparian edge around Spring Lake. The position also assists our beds maintenance crew with landscape installations and bed maintenance. If you love trees and working outdoors, this is an opportunity to care for one of the largest contiguous canopies in the area.
    Job Duties
    • Prune trees, maintaining and training the form of tree canopies.
    • Clean out dead branches that pose hazards to pedestrians and property.
    • Mulch tree wells.
    • Plant new trees.
    • Identify potentially hazardous trees.
    • Assist with maintenance of landscape beds.
    • Help keep landscape free of liter.
    • Maintain equipment used to perform tree maintenance.

    Texas Conservation Corps – San Antonio

    Are you interested in gaining experience in disaster mitigation, habitat restoration, trail projects, and disaster relief with opportunities to camp across Texas?

    Texas Conservation Corps (TXCC) participants engage in hands-on conservation projects on public lands, coastal regions, National Parks and recreational areas across the Central Southern United States. The Conservation Corps experience builds leadership skills, connection with community, and prepares young people with skills needed to enter the workforce with a strong work ethic and sense of service!

    Conservation and Disaster Crews: These crews are focused on conservation projects throughout Texas landscapes. Crew Leaders and Members complete habitat restoration and trail projects with a variety of partners, from the National Park Service to local County Parks. Though most of the season will consist of conservation projects, these crews remain on-call and able to deploy should a flood, fire, hurricane, or other disasters occur. TXCC is both a state and federal resource during disasters, and leaders receive training in spontaneous volunteer management, donations management, and the Incident Command System. Common partners include FEMA and the Texas Department of Emergency Management.

    This is a full-time seasonal term-based AmeriCorps position working outdoors that specifically focuses on gaining experience in disaster mitigation, habitat restoration, trail projects, and disaster relief.     Arborist Supervisor – UT El Paso

    Essential Functions

    Reviews and evaluates tree maintenance needs and takes appropriate action.
    Prepares, maintains, updates and reviews tree inventory; prepares written and oral reports regarding tree planting and tree removal to Grounds Management Personnel and other University personnel.
    Knowledge of local tree and plant species and arboricultural practices.
    Knowledge of tree maintenance methods and equipment.
    Ability to safely climb trees to perform proper pruning.
