The Texas Tree Climbing Championship (TTCC)

May 29-30, 2009


The Texas Chapter held another successful Tree Climbing Championship this year. Thanks to all the ISAT members and vendors who helped out. Miguel Pastenes was the overall Texas winner and he will represent Texas at the International Tree Climbing Championship this July in Providence, RI.

Come to Austin and see if you have what it takes to be the next Texas Tree Climbing Champion and represent the Texas Chapter at the International Tree Climbing Championship in St. Louis this July.

The five TTCC events are:
Work climb:
Contestants climb to five stations in a tree, performing a different task at each station.
Aerial rescue: Contestants reach and safely lower an injured climber (actually a life-sized mannequin)
Throwline: Tests contestants' agility to accurately place lines about 50 feet up in a tree.
Belayed speed climb: Contestants ascend a predetermined route from ground to about 50 feet.
Secured footlock: Measures climber's ability to perform 40-foot vertical ascent using double-climbing line

Thursday May 28, Pre-Competition Aerial Rescue Workshop
8:30am - check in & late registration for aerial rescue workshop
9am-11:30am - classroom style presentation by Guy LeBlanc, Texas Champion Climber
12pm-1pm - Instructor demonstration and lunch (provided)
1pm-3:30pm - Attendee participation (optional and time permitting- CTW candidates and TCC competitors given priority, others based on date of registration).
3:30pm-3:45pm - CEU signup

2009 Texas Tree Climbing Championship Participant Schedule

This is a 2-day event with all five preliminary events starting on Friday. Six climbers per group will rotate through events and  groups will be pre-drawn; each group will draw numbers for starting order. Climber rotation will change with each event.

8:30am - 10:00am - roll call, group assignment, tee-shirt handout, equipment check,
event walk thru including demonstrations
10:00am- dark - competition
Saturday May 30
7:30-7:45am - roll call
8am-12:00pm - resume competition
12:00-12:30pm - tally scores
12:30-1:00pm - announce scores
1:00-1:30pm - judges/competitors meeting
1:45-3:15pm - masters challenge
3:15-3:30 - tally scores
3:30-4:00pm - announce results
4:00 - adjourn
